City Boards and Committees
BOARDS: This board is the City Council for the City of La Vergne. They are responsible for the decisions that operate the city. They are elected for a Four-year term by the citizens of La Vergne. The city election is held in November during even-numbered years. For more information visit the Rutherford County Election website. The board meets at the City Hall Board Room. Current Members:
This board is responsible for the issuing of Beer Permits. There may be times when this board will meet to consider suspending, revoking or requiring fines for those businesses that do not abide by the city's regulations regarding the selling of beer. This board consists of 5 members. Currently, this board meets on an as needed basis. The chairman is responsible for setting the dates and times of the meetings. This board is responsible for hearing and deciding on issues regarding the zoning ordinance of the city. These issues are usually requests for variances from the zoning or sign ordinance, or requests for special exceptions that are allowed by the Zoning Ordinance. This board also hears appeals regarding administrative decisions made by the Codes Department. This board consists of 5 members. Currently this board meets every month on the last Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall Board Room. This board is responsible for hearing requests for variances from the various building codes that the city has adopted. There are 7 members on this board. This committee has been created to assist the city council and to advise the council in connection with issues and programs involving economic development. There are 5 members on this board. This board is responsible for making recommendations regarding the development and maintenance of the greenway system in the City of La Vergne. The committee was created to assist the city council and to advise the council in connection with issues and programs involving the preservation of the city's history. This committee consists of 5 members. This board meets every month on the third Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Board Room. While not a City Board, this group appointed by they Mayor serves the City to provide dwelling accommodations for persons in the City of La Vergne, Tennessee and said 10 mile surrounding area who are at least 60 years old. This board is responsible for various aspects of the operation of the La Vergne Public Library. The board consists of 7 members and meets every month on the third Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Library Children's area meeting room. This committee was created to assist the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and to advise the Board in connection with issues and programs involving emergency services which may include: (a) Development, implementation and evaluation of the City’s Emergency Plan; (b) Make recommendations for additional resources needed in an emergency; (c) Complete a comprehensive emergency response plan; (d) Work with City of La Vergne staff, committees and other City/community based groups, as directed by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, on emergency management issues. The committee consists of 15 members and meets on an as needed basis in either the Police Department Training Room or the City Hall Board Room. Current Members:
This committee acts as the advisory committee for future planning of recreation, ongoing programs, special events, and other matters related to leisure services for the citizens. This committee also recommends needed maintenance and physical improvements as needed in parks and recreation. This board consists of 7 members, one to represent each of these following groups: Primary & Elementary Age; Teenage; Young & Middle Age; and Senior Citizens. The Chairman is a member of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and is appointed by that board. Currently, this board meets on an as needed basis in the City Hall Board Room. This board is responsible for reviewing and approving the development of the City. They review and approve all subdivision plats and building site plans. They are responsible for making necessary changes to the subdivision regulations and the major thoroughfare plan. This board also makes recommendations to the City Council regarding rezoning requests and changes to the zoning ordinance. This board consists of 7 members with the Mayor and one Alderman being 2 of those members. They currently meet on the last Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall Board Room. This committee acts as the advisory committee for future planning of the Senior Citizens, ongoing programs, special events, and other matters related to leisure services for the Senior Citizens. They also recommend needed maintenance and physical improvements as needed for the Senior Citizen's Building. This committee consists of 11 members as follows: Six members are appointed from the following groups: 2 members are from the La Vergne Senior Citizens Club; 1 member is either the Rutherford County Executive or a Rutherford County Commissioner; and 3 members represent the community and/or industries of La Vergne. Four members (4) shall be appointed from the general constituency without regard to the location of such member's residence. The 11th member shall be appointed by the Mayor from the Board of Aldermen. This Alderman acts as the chairman of the committee. Currently, this board meets every month on the Third Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the Senior Citizen Center. Return to Top Stormwater Appeals and Advisory Board This board was commissioned to hear and decide appeals of any order, decision or ruling of the City Engineer or Director of Codes Compliance or his designee issued pursuant to the Storm Water Management Ordinance. Following the hearing on an application for appeal, the Stormwater Appeals and Advisory Board may affirm, reverse, modify or remand for more information, the order, decision or ruling of the City Engineer or Director of Codes Compliance or his designee. In no event shall be Stormwater Appeals and Advisory Board issue a decision that in any way conflicts or contradicts the Storm Water Management Ordinance or any other federal, state or local laws or regulations relating to Stormwater, Wastewater, Zoning or Planning. The board consists of 7 members and meets on an as needed basis in the Codes Building Conference Room or the City Hall Board Room. Return to Top Board/Committee Selection Process Vacancies are posted on Channel 3 and the City of La Vergne website. An application must be submitted to be considered for a position. Applications for vacant positions can be picked up from the La Vergne City Recorder's office in City Hall or by downloading the following form - Board or Committee Member. The application is in PDF and will require Adobe's free Acrobat Reader to view, complete, and/or print. Once completed applications have been received, the name(s) are forwarded to the Board of Mayor and Alderman for appointment at their next meeting. Some positions are appointed by the Mayor while others are voted on by the Board.
