New four-way stop in La Vergne

The City of La Vergne will be installing new stop signs at Hollanridge and Toyna Drives, making it a four-way stop. We will be installing them on Monday Aug. 2 and they will be covered until Mon. Aug. 16th. We will also install stop ahead signs and 4-way signs on the stop signs.

City to re-enforce parking ban Monday

Convience Center Reopened

The City has been able to reopen the Cleanup Center on Old Nashville Highway. The City was able to have additional dumpsters brought in late Saturday afternoon, said Mayor Ronnie Erwin. We are sorry for any inconvenience that the temporary closing may have caused.

Mayor urges TEMA to declare Ruth. Co. a disaster area

Mayor Ronnie Erwin is not happy with the fact that Rutherford County was not included in the TEMA disaster area list, released yesterday.

As a result, he has urged state Senator Jim Tracy to meet with Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey today to discuss the possibility of including Rutherford County.

We will inform you of the results of the meeting as time progresses.

Mayor instructs department to audit water meters

Mayor Ronnie Erwin has heard rumors that there are some meters in La Vergne that are not being billed and are not accounted for. Therefore, he is asking for the water department and public works to conduct an audit of all of the water meters in town, making sure each one is accounted for. He also wants the departments to ensure that each of the meters is being billed the proper amount each month. This audit should begin immediately.

Trash and Brush Cleanup Center Added

A Temporarily Cleanup Center is being setup at 670 Old Nashville Highway. The center will be available for citizens to bring their damaged household items (furniture, carpet, drywall, wood, brush, etc.) for the next few days. The Center will be open from 8AM till 8PM.

Parking on streets ban lifted for two weeks

Because of the water issues in surrounding citizes, people are coming to La Vergne to stay with relatives and friends. Due to this, Mayor Ronnie Erwin and Police Chief Ted Boyd have lifted the ban on parking on streets for two weeks ONLY.

REMA helping La Vergne citizens

Mayor Ronnie Erwin has announced that the Rutherford County Emergency Management agency is in town and are going to the four sections of town, helping people out who are stranded in their homes or need assistance. A police officer will be going with them.

Also, TEMA approved the disaster area request last night and are on their way to La Vergne to assess the damage.

La Vergne budget set at $11.8 million

After two budget workshops by the La Vergne Board of Mayor and Aldermen, Mayor Ronnie Erwin is happy to report the the budget is finalized.

'Right now, we're $31,000 to the good,' he announced Thursday. 'And that's with the insurance going up, a three percent raise for employees and the non-profit donations.'

The budget workshops are completed. The completed budget, set at $11,834,000, will be submitted to the Board for their approval in May and June. It takes two votes by the Board to pass a budget. A workshop will be held at the June 1 meeting.

Once approved, the budget will take effect July 1, 2010.

The Old Timers' Day Committee is still looking for artist packages for the 2010 Old Timers' Day festival, held each September at La Vergne's Veteran's Memorial Park, 115 Floyd Mayfield Drive. This year's event will take place Sept. 18.
