The Police Department is headed by
Ted Boyd.
The La Vergne Police Department is made up of 46 commissioned officers,
including the Chief, detectives, narcotics/gang unit and patrol officers.
Officers in the department work a number of different patrols such as the
Vehicle Patrol and Motorcycle Patrol. In addition, one officer works as a
K-9 officer.
Patrol
The La Vergne Police Department’s patrol officers who are involved in a
number of patrols including vehicle and motorcycle. LPD’s patrol unit is
divided into three shifts. The morning shift officers work 6am to 4pm.
Second shift officers work 2pm to 12midnight. Third shift officers work
10pm to 8am. The overlapping shifts allow for a power shift three times
per day. Officers work four days on, three days off.
Vehicle Patrol:
LPD currently has more than 30 patrol cars which allow officers to patrol
the streets of the city during the three daily shifts. They patrol streets
and business parking lots to ensure the safety of the residents of La Vergne.
Motorcycle Patrol:
LPD’s motorcycle unit consists of two Harley Davidson Road King motorcycles
which are used during the first and second shifts of each day. The motorcycles
can be ridden seven days per week, 365 days per year, unless weather
conditions are dangerous.
Criminal Investigation Division
Six detectives currently work in the La Vergne Police Department’s Criminal
Investigation unit. The CID unit works hundreds of cases per year including
domestic and sexual crimes, robberies, burglaries and thefts, assault and
other serious crimes.
