You're invited to Old Timers' Day 2009
The City of La Vergne’s annual festival celebrating La Vergne
and its citizens.
Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009
GENERAL INFORMATION:
This year's theme is: TBA
Old Timers’ Day 2009 is gearing up to be the biggest and best
festival ever. From the La Vergne Rescue Squad’s Country Ham
breakfast to the Parade and from the music to the closing
fireworks, the day will be filled with activities for the
entire family.
In addition, the Children's and Seniors Zones will be full of
special surprises and the senior citizens will offer traditional
favorites in their tent. Plan now to celebrate the city and its
citizens during Old Timers’ Day 2009, Sept. 19, at La Vergne’s
Veterans Memorial Park.
This is, obviously, an outdoor event. It will take place
rain or shine. Refunds are not given for Acts of God.
The Old Timers' Day committee is also debuting their new logo for
the annual festival. Created by Art Growden Creative, the logo
features a fiddle with Old Timers' Day written on it and
La Vergne, Tennessee written on a ribbon at the bottom. The logo
will be used in all stationary, T-shirts and other correspondence
in 2009 and beyond.
"We wanted to get a logo that was cleaner than the previous
one, which we'd used for nine years," said Angie Mayes,
Coordinator of Old Timers' Day. "I think this is ideal for
our message that it's a music festival which celebrates the city
and citizens of La Vergne."
The 2009 sponsors are the City of La Vergne, and others to
be announced.

OLD TIMERS’ DAY SERVES AS A FUND RAISER FOR MANY VERY
IMPORTANT GROUPS:
Many area groups -- including the Library, Senior Center, Police
Athletic League, and area church and school groups -- use Old
Timers' Day as a major fund-raiser for their organization.
This is the perfect day for those groups to raise funds through
food or craft sales, silent auctions and other fund-raising
events.
Support your local organizations' fund-raising efforts by
attending Old Timers' Day 2009.

T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST:
The second annual T-shirt Design Contest, which allows Rutherford
County residents to design a potential T-shirt design for the
2009 Old Timers’ Day T-shirt, begins Feb. 1, 2009. Deadline for
entry is April 1, 2009.
Entrants must do a maximum four-color design, using the current
logo which is brown, crème and gold (see the top of this page
for an image of the logo) and agree to give up all rights when
submitting the artwork. The T-Shirts will be stonewash blue.
The size of the design is to be no larger than 10 x 12 and
entrants must include a CD of the design in Encapsulated PostScript
(.eps) as well as a Joint Photographic Experts Group (.jpeg)
of the design. A hard copy is also to be included in the package.
The artist’s name, address and e-mail address or phone number must
be included on both the CD cover and the back of the hard copy.
"We received three very good designs last year," said
Old Timers’ Day committee chairman Angie Mayes. "We did a
blind test and Brian Williams’ design was chosen. We’re hoping for
an excellent design for 2009 as well."
The winning artist, as well as the second and third place entrants
will be recognized at the festival. The winner will receive a $150,
a plaque, five T-shirts in their choice of adult sizes and a bundle
of City of La Vergne/Old Timers' Day ad specialty items. The second
and third place winners will receive a plaque.
For more information, call Angie Mayes at 287-8690 or 207-4678.
In 2008, all of the T-shirts were either given to sponsors
(in exchange for their sponsorship) or sold to members of the
public. This year, approximately 300 T-shirts will be made,
using the winning design. The T-Shirts will be sold at the
festival for $5 for S-XL and $6 for 2X.
