Application Process
The entire process of getting a Beer Permit can take at least three weeks to complete,
depending on when you submit your application. The meeting has to be set up by the
Chairman of the Beer Board. The Beer Board Meeting must be advertised in a local
newspaper. The City Recorder's Office is responsible for scheduling and advertising
the meeting.
The application is available at City Hall. When you get the application, a printed
copy of the Rules and Regulations found in the La Vergne Municipal Code will be
attached. Make sure you meet all of the requirements listed. Make sure you completely
fill out the application before you submit it for review.
You must submit a $250.00 Application Fee when you submit your application. This
fee is non-refundable.
The City Recorder's Office will contact the Chairman of the Beer Board to schedule
a meeting to consider your request. Once that meeting has been set up and advertised,
the City will do an investigation on the applicant. If the applicant is a corporation,
the investigation will be done on an office of the company.
You must attend the Beer Board Meeting so that you can answer any questions that may
arise. During the meeting, the Beer Board will consider your application. If the Beer
Board approves your request, the City Recorder's Office will have the appropriate
officials sign the Beer Permit. This could take a day or two depending on the
availability of the Mayor and Chairman of the Beer Board.
Once the Permit has been signed, you may pick up the permit after you pay the Yearly
Privilege Tax. The Privilege Tax will be pro-rated for the remainder of the current year.
Yearly Privilege Tax
Every year, during the Month of December, you will receive a notice from the City
Recorder stating that your Beer Privilege Tax is due beginning January 1st. You MUST
pay the privilege tax before January 31 in order to not lose your Beer Permit. If
you do not pay the Privilege Tax before January 31, a Second notice will be sent out.
If you do not pay your Privilege Tax within 10 days of receiving the notice, your Beer
Permit will automatically be revoked.

ALL liquor licenses are issued by the State of Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage
Commission (ABC) located in Nashville. You must apply to the City of La Vergne for a
Certificate of Compliance before you can go to the ABC for their approval.
The entire process of getting a Certificate of Compliance can take up to 4-6 weeks,
depending on when you submit your application. The Certificate of Compliance has to be
approved by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. They meet on the first Tuesday of every
month beginning at 7:00 p.m.
An advertisement must be run in a local newspaper regarding the application for a
Certificate of Compliance. The City Recorder's Office will give you a copy of the
advertisement that you should run in the newspaper. The applicant is responsible for
making sure the advertisement is in the newspaper prior to the meeting.
The application is available at City Hall. When you get the application, a printed
copy of the Rules and Regulations found in the La Vergne Municipal Code will be
attached. Make sure you meet all of the requirements listed. Make sure you completely

You must have a site already picked out before you submit an application. If you do
not own the property, you must submit an agreement between yourself and the property
owner that states you can use that building/property for a liquor store. We must know
where you are going to put the store so we can make sure you meet the distance
regulations.
When an application is received, the City Recorder's Office will forward a copy of
your application to the Chief of Police and City Attorney to make sure all of the
requirements have been met. A sign will be placed in front of your location a
minimum of 10 days before the meeting to advertise that you are applying for a
Certificate of Compliance.
You must attend the Mayor / Aldermen Workshop and Meeting so that you can answer any
questions that may arise. During the Regular Monthly Meeting, the Board will consider
your application. If approval is given, the City Recorder's Office will compile the
information you need to submit to the ABC. This could take a day or two.

for a Certificate of Good Moral Character and a Certificate of Compliance before
you can go to the ABC for their approval.
The entire process of getting a Certificate of Good Moral Character and a
Certificate of Compliance could take up to 4-6 weeks, depending on when you
submit your application. The Certificate of Good Moral Character has to be
approved by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. The Certificate of Compliance has
to be approved by the Public Works Director. Both of these Certificates are
needed to apply to the ABC for your liquor license. Here is some more information
regarding each Certificate:
CERTIFICATE OF GOOD MORAL CHARACTER:
The Certificate of Good Moral Character must be approved by the City of La Vergne
Board of Mayor and Aldermen. They meet on the first Tuesday of every month at

ensures that the applicant does not have a criminal background and that the Board
feels that the applicant will abide by all State and Local laws regarding the
selling of Liquor.
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE:
The Certificate of Compliance must be approved by the Public Works Director. This
Certificate ensures that the location of the Restaurant, Hotel, etc. meets all

owner that states you can use that building/property for a restaurant, hotel, club,
etc. We must know where you are going to put the restaurant so we can make sure you
meet the distance regulations.

your application to the Chief of Police, the City Attorney and the Director of Public
Works to make sure all of the requirements have been met.
