Citizen Police Academy
We at the LaVergne Police Department feel good citizen-police
interactions and cooperation are necessary for an exceptional
quality of life in our community. The way to achieve this goal
is through an exchange of ideas and education. The Citizen
Police Academy (CPA) at the La Vergne Police Department is an
excellent way to achieve this end. Across the country, this
idea has been met with enthusiasm.
The CPA will include detailed information on such topics as
uniformed patrol, special operations, criminal investigations,
youth and criminal law, moot court, and many other interesting
areas. Based on recommendations from citizens and previous CPA
classes, ride-alongs with uniformed patrol officers will be a
part of the activities.
A combination of lecture and interactive formats will be used,
so that this school will be informative, interesting and fun.
Attendance is important for your success in the class. There is
no cost for the class. Qualifications for CPA attendees are:
(1) minimum age of 16 (with parental consent)
(2) live or work in the city of La Vergne
(3) no prior felony arrests
(4) no serious misdemeanor arrests
A criminal background investigation is performed concerning all
applications to assure that all participants have not been
convicted of any felony or serious misdemeanor crimes. A strong
alumni association has been developed from members of previous
CPA classes and several other cities and it is hoped that
members of the alumni association will assist with various La
Vergne Police Department related projects in the future.
